General Directions: Your Initial Discussion Post:

Please select one of the following prompts to discuss.  Use Poe, Doyle, and Christie  in your discussion.  Use specific example/details/ lines from the text as supporting evidence for the claims you make.  I expect a minimum of 500 words.

( I only want a tutor to accept this question if you have read stories written by poe, doyle, and christie. I wont accept the work if i think you haven't read these)

Use the questions/ideas I have presented to get started on your own exploration; do not feel as though you have to address each point/question I have presented in the prompts.  You want a unified argument - one that makes connection between these writers.  To do so means you should focus on one major idea. 

Do not worry about summarizing plot.  All of your group members have read the same book as you and they know what it is about.  A response of just plot summary will not earn you any credit.  Likewise, do not just tell us your opinion of the book.  You must analyze what the writer is doing.

Prompt:  What makes a "great detective"? Is it his/her methods? Experience? Education and background? Ability to read other people? Relationship with police?  Relationship with sidekick?  Sense of independence? Decision making ability?  Imagination? Intuition?  Sense of justice and morality?  Using characteristics from all of our sleuths, define "great detective"?
