Assignment Title - Analysis of corrosion mechanisms and preventative measures

Dissimilar and Selective metal corrosion have presented a problem for many decades.

1) Examine a case of dissimilar metal corrosion.

2) And an ex of selective or localized attack.

A) These can be real life exs or any other situation, or a combination of both. In either case choose simple easily understood exs.

B) Include pictures and diagrams to demonstrate your ideas and explanations.

C) An Introduction giving a broader setting of the circumstances surrounding the ex cases should be included along with a Conclusions section.

D) Material researched must be referenced & acknowledged.

For your chosen exs you should make cases for the corrosion process being (1) dissimilar corrosion and (2) selective attack.

Why do you identify them as such?

Present evidence to support your cases.

A) Part of each case should be a diagram and description of the “corrosion cell”.

B) describe the difference between selective attack and dissimilar metal corrosion with reference to your diagrams above.

C) You should identify things such as the anode, cathode, paths of conduction and approximations of the materials and electrolytes.

D) Identify methods of reducing or eliminating corrosion in both cases.

E) If applicable, identify a failure of some sort which caused the presence of a corrosion cell where there should not have been one.

F) Report length 2000 words(+/-10%).
