1. In the short story Reunion written by John Cheever it seems to me that this experience that Charlie was very disappointed in the reunion he had with his father.

Charlie hadn't seen his father in three years since his parents divorced and surely didn't envision his father to be acting belligerentonce they met for lunch.

Here is a boy that wished he could have a photograph taken of them two so that he could keep the memories for the future. But the only memory he had once his train departed was of a man that he called daddy being obnoxious and "boisterous" as he stated in the story. His father wasn't really there for him to see his son to acknowledge his own flesh and blood, his father was there to put on a show, to get a rise out of others for his behavior.

On the other hand, maybe just maybe his father was nervous to meet his son after three years and not really having any contact with him. The only way he could feel comfortable around him was to become someone he wasn't and see how that would turn out for him.

It's an interesting short read being that many young boys grow up not having a father around. Young men dream of what their dad might look like or how their dad carries himself. To have a disappointment like that, from father could go either of two ways. The young boy will say to them self, he will never be anything like his father or he might just head down the same road as his father. I honestly found this to be a great read.

2.After reading "The Red Convertible" by Louise Erdrich I felt as though I was blown away with emotion. Erdrich's writing skills kept me intrigued from the very joyful beginning to the dreadful ending. Erdrich chose to write in parts that referenced specific time slots in the story. For example, Erdrich started the story in past tense. Describing to the reader the childhood of one of the main character's of the story, Lyman. She initially did this in detail to set the tone for the reader which was in turn a positive one.

Next, moving towards the plot of the story I could sense some foreshadowing. The story took a different tone when Lyman shared that his brother Henry came back from war different. I sensed that the story was growing darker and a more serious tone was set that led me to believe the ending was not going to be a good one.

However, I was feeling various emotions at this stage and joy began to take a peek before reaching the climax of the story. Lyman hinted at a possible recovery from Henry therefore I was hopeful and continued to read on. It seemed as though the ending was unpredictable at this point. I thought Erdrcih the writer has the audience (readers) where she wants them and their fullest attention.

In the end, my predictions were confirmed when I realized the story had a very sorrowful ending. Moreover, I was impressed in the writing skills used by Erdrich to tell us this story in the most mysterious way possible. I was inspired by this story and selected this particular one for my first essay as I feel I was left with so much emotion at the end and want to add my opinion and final thoughts on this story.
