- A perennial theme of science fiction is the encounter between humans and the "alien" (not merely literal extraterrestrials but the more complex experience of alien-ness and otherness). Discuss this point with reference to the short storys "Shambleau by C.L. Moore," and "Desertion by Clifford D. Simak."
