Full points will only be awarded for a paper of high standard.

1. Write a 2-3 page paper looking in more detail at 1) a particular religious scripture or text OR 2) a religious leader or thinker from one of the traditions we have studied. You could focus on an influential scripture (Vedas, Bhagavad-Gita, Daodejing, Buddhist sutras, Bible, Qur'an, etc.), or on a current or historical figure (Thomas Aquinas, Moses Maimonides, Confucius, the Pope, Mother Teresa, the Dalai Lama, etc.). For this paper, you will need to do some research (beyond the textbook) and cite primary, and/or secondary sources. If you want some advice on where to start, let me know the topic you're thinking of writing on. As with the main required paper, it is important to discuss, not just describe.

2. Visit a temple, mosque, church, meditation center, etc. (belonging to a religious tradition or denomination other than your own). Write a 2-3 page paper on your experience there, including what you saw and did, who you talked to, what you learned, and how it all relates to what we've covered in the course or to other religious traditions you're familiar with You can attach photos if you like.
