Find a current popular press article (e.g. New York Times, The Washington Post, etc.) that deals with a social problem. Write a two-page reaction paper that provides/answers the following:

(1) brief summary of the article;

(2) identifies the social problem (the claim);

(3) who the claimsmakers are (are they activists, experts, both, neither);

(4) is data offered to support a certain perspective of the claim;

(5) how the issue might be constructed from another point of view;

(6) describe what influence the media outlet you selected has (in your opinion) in framing the social problem at hand (e.g. are there any biases associated; you could have a conservative media outlet for instance reporting on a social problem in one way, while a liberal outlet might do so differently).

Students may write up to 3 reaction papers, which are worth 10 points each. In order to receive full credit, all of the aforementioned points must be covered adequately in the paper.

Additionally, you must include the link to your article if you find it online or scan and upload the printed article into your paper.

Papers are to be a minimum of 2 full pages and not to exceed 3, double spaced, with no larger than 12 point font (Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman).

Must include a reference page (not included in the required 2 pages) and appropriately cite your article source (ASA citation required -

see link under "helpful links" on Blackboard for more information on how to do this).

Length : 3 papers.
