describe a review and analysis of the Key provisions of the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and NEA Code of Ethics

Every profession has a code of conduct that its members are expected to follow. Members of a profession who do not adhere to the code of conduct can expect repercussions. Lawyers can be disbarred, medical doctors can lose their licenses, and teachers can have their teaching certificates revoked or suspended.

While there are similarities between states and schools/districts, there may also be distinct differences. Because of the possibility of severe consequences, it is imperative that those entering the teaching profession become familiar with the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards of the state, district, or school where they work. Once in the field, it would be wise to regularly review the conduct expectations to keep them fresh in mind.

Task:

A. Submit a copy of the state of Illinois school Code of Ethics and Professional Standards.

B. Review and analyze the key provisions of the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards prepare a complete and concise summary (suggested length of 2 pages) of your impressions of key provisions.

C. Address what is expected of teachers in their conduct in each of the following key areas:

1. Pertaining to students

2. Pertaining to the public

3. Toward the profession

4. Toward other educators

5. Toward the school or district

Note: When using outside sources to support ideas and elements in a paper, the submission MUST include APA formatted in-text citations with a corresponding reference list for any direct quotes or paraphrasing. It is not necessary to list sources that were consulted if they have not been quoted or paraphrased in the text of the paper.
