Essential Questions : Who are the witches of today?  What can I do to help them?

Directions:

Take time to reflect and respond to the six questions below in complete sentence. We will discuss your responses in small groups and as a large group during presentations. These questions will help us decide on who the "witches" are in our culture today and what we might do to intervene in support of them.

Requirements:

1. Create a presentation that addresses the essential questions above This will be the focus of your presentation.

2. Your group must address the following questions below in your presentation. Assign two questions per group member. Each group member will he responsible for including this information in your Google Slides presentation.

Create a project and "action plan' that you would feasibly be able to implement in your local community to help the "witches" you've identified.

4. Each group member must write a separate, typed reflection paper that adilresses the following:

a. Connections to The Crucible

b. What have l learned about my "witches' of today?

c. Reflections on our group process

d. Project Takeaway: So what? Why does any of this matter?

5. Extra credit for implementing the project in your community:

Address the following in your presentation:

1. Who were the witches of Salem? As you consider this questions, think about whieltcharacters were labeled and Oiled for being witches.

2. Who arc these characters? Describe their position in the town. HOW were they identified bywitches and by whom?

3. How did the general population react to this particular group?

4. Read Arthur Miller's article. "Why I Wrote the Crucible' What arc Arthur Miller's primary reasons for wilting The Crucible?

5. Read the article "Witch Hunts Throughout I listory." Answer the following questions:

a. In the context of the text. what arc the e ects of following the crowd? Would these witch hunislhave been possible without the support of others? Why do you think people supported these prejudiced hunts? Cite evidence from this text, your own experience, and other literature, art, nr history in your answer.

b. In the context of the text, how does prejudice emerge? Why were these specie groups targeted;during the witch hunts discussed? Cite evidence from this text, your own experience, and other literacureamor history in your answer.

c. In the context of the text, how does fear drive action? How did fear play a role in the witch hunts depicted in the text? Cite evidence from this text, your own experience, and other literature, art, or history in your answer.
