Essay on adultery-

Write a two to three-page essay where you choose three or four urban legends to profile/analyze. They must be listed on snopes.com and must have a similar probable reason to exist. Your purpose in this essay is to analyze/break down these urban legends with the goal of explaining you think the similar probable reason is they came into being.

Your thesis will be something like this: these four urban legends could have originated because reason society is passionate about protecting children from every possible danger (whatever e on you figure out all of your urban legends have in common for existing).

Structure Introduction -

• Interesting first sentence

• Quick description of urban legends and their general purpose in our culture. DO NOT look up this information. Just give your impression.

• Thesis: your opinion of the common reason your three to four urban legends exist. (The names of the urban legends go in quotation marks.)

Three or four body paragraphs -

• Quick summary of each urban legend-one per body paragraph (check out snopes, but don't look at it as you write the summaries)

• You do not need to cite snopes or do a Works Cited page for your summary of the urban legends; these tales are so widespread they are considered common knowledge.

• Your carefully considered idea about why each of your urban legends began. This should be tied in to each body paragraph and match the reason you put in your thesis.

Things to consider when figuring out the reason(s) your urban legends may have started -

• What incidents were happening in the world/country during the time period your urban legend originated that could have influenced the growth of your tale? (You may have to look this up, but it is another example of common knowledge, so no citations needed.)

• Who is being warned in your urban legend?

• What are listeners supposed to avoid/do?

• Who are the bad guys? (Could be an individual, group, specific kind of business or element of society)

• Why would groups of people be worried about the issue they are being warned against?

Activities -

• Search snopes.com under Categories to locate a couple of urban legends to practice on.

• Field research interviewing three or four others in the class to see if they've heard your urban legend(s) and whether theft behavior changed after hearing the urban legend(s).

• Ask them what they think the urban legend(s) could have been warning them against?

Conclusion -

What's the significance of the ones you chose or you could talk about the general significance of them.
