Habits of Mind Mini-Essay

Reflect on a challenge you experienced in high school or at work. Pick one tip based onEveryone's An Author chapter 1, or on class discussion, or on your own personal experience that helped you overcome the challenge (or WOULD have helped you if you had known about it).

When developing content for this mini-essay, be sure to

• Describe the challenge
• Define or summarize one quality or habit of mind (in your own words)
• Explain how the quality/habit of mind could help with the challenge
• Draw on free writes, notes, or what you remember from class discussion

Note: There is no correct answer. Take a few minutes to think about the readings and your stance before you begin writing. Be sure to organize and develop your ideas, make any revisions that you think are necessary, and to proofread your response before turning it in.

• a demonstration of why this tip is useful (think of this as your main point or thesis statement)
• specific examples from the readings, discussion, and/or your experience that support, clarify, illustrate, and/or defend your stance.
