ENGLISH RESEARCH PAPER ASSIGNMENT

Using the MLA format, prepare a research paper on the CSS H.L. Hunley in which your warrant/claim is that development and success of the Hunley forever changed the ways wars are fought, even into the twenty first century. Your paper must be at least five pages in length [exclusive of Title page, bibliography, etc], typed, and appropriately formatted. This paper should examine the historical importance of the Hunley in terms of the development of the Hunley itself and the historical importance of the vessel in terms of the history of warfare in general.

Consult and refer to (cite) at least five print (i.e. books or e-books) sources. You are also encouraged to visit the Hunley Museum and view the actual vessel and its artifacts. If you do so, you may also cite to the Blue Light magazine published by the Friends of the Hunley. Since there is some delay in obtaining research materials from the libraries of another campus, you should begin your research as soon as possible. Remember that there are several books on reserve at the USCB library for you! The paper will be due at the end of this semester on the last day of class, and will be an important part of your grade. We will discuss the paper at times throughout the remainder of the term, however you should begin your reading/research as soon as possible.
