English Assignment 1: Team Proposal Slide Presentation

Topic: Identify a problem or a need. Propose an effective solution.

Task

The Proposal Presentation is your professional team Google Slides presentation of your proposal research project. The slide presentation should include pertinent and effective visual elements, including a very scant minimum of three Google Slides per classmate. The presentation will be graded on content and the quality of your slides. Study the Teams and the Presentations information in preparing your slide presentation.

Technology Resources: Google Slides and Google Conferences

Collaborate with one another through the vehicle of Google Conferences. This will give you the opportunity for you to chat online and divvy up responsibilities.

Create your presentation slides in Google Slides. This will give everyone the opportunity to create, add-to, make changes, revise, etc. your team proposal slides.

Each member of the team must contribute slides. Divide the presentation however works best for your team; just make sure everyone is clearly contributing.

• Introduce each team member with a slide.
• Present the content of your proposal with slides.
• End with a smooth conclusion.
• The transitions between slides should be smooth, natural, and, above all, professional.

Length: 9-15 slides

Audience: classmates and instructor

Important! Keep good notes about your proposal process including team participation, work distribution, and effectiveness of the team. You will return to this process for your final exam memo in which you will write an assessment of the team and of the process.

English Assignment 2: Unsolicited, External Persuasive Proposal

Topic: Identify a problem or a need. Propose an effective solution.

Topic Option 1:

Identify a problem or need related to your professional training and/or workplace. Research the cost of meeting the need and/or correcting the problem. Identify the implementation for your solution. Persuade your specific audience (identify your audience: a company's CEO, a business's President, Management, Governing Board, etc.) to meet that need.

Topic Option 2:

Identify a service offered by the college that could use improvement (examples: parking, speed bumps, health club, food facilities, lab facilities, academic offerings, etc.). Propose an improvement to this service. Propose the implementation of an improvement. Plan a presentation for the Board of Directors and the Administration, including President Keith Miller, to convince them to consider the change.

Topic Option 3:

Assume the role of a group of consumer rights advocates that have been notified of a faulty product or service (related to your own professional training). Prepare a presentation for the Better Business Bureau to 1) inform them of the problem and to 2) convince them that a specific action (which you propose) must be taken.

Task

Choose a topic. Identify a need. Persuade a specific audience (that you precisely identify) to meet that need. The proposal is a team written report. Build your proposal on the thoroughness of your research, the cogency of your organization, and the strength of your persuasion.

Each member of the team must contribute. Divide the responsibilities however works best for your team; just make sure everyone is clearly contributing.

Audience: The audience for this proposal is complex. The true audience for your specific proposal is the specific group responsible for making the decision to implement your suggestion. Part of your audience is your English professor where you are governed by the Proposal Rubric demands.

Technology Resources: Google Conferences and Google Docs

Collaborate with one another through the vehicle of Google Conferences. This will give everyone the opportunity to chat online and divvy up responsibilities.

Create your document in Google Docs. This will give everyone the opportunity to create, add-to, make changes, revise, etc. your team proposal.

Formatting:

Follow the Document Formatting Instructions in Blackboard for correct document formatting.

In addition, the proposal will be a substantial written document. It will include:

• a cover page
• a table of contents=the outline
• an introduction
• a clear definition of the needed service
• a thorough study of the current availability
• a proposed budget
• an implementation plan
• supporting graphics: charts, budget plans, schedules-Study chapter 10
• a conclusion
• appendixes
• Sources Cited page listing all sources used in preparing the essay

Appendixes: Attach your Meeting Agendas and your Meeting Minutes as Appendixes or Back Matter (see page 339 of Chapter 11 in your textbook) to the end of your Proposal.

Length: 750 words, excluding Sources Cited page and Appendixes

Point of View: 3rd person

Documentation of Sources: Sources must be appropriately documented using MLA format. Study the MLA handout in Blackboard very carefully. Interview the best contacts to gather the information needed to strengthen the evidence of your proposal. Document each interview. You may be interviewing coworkers to gather evidence of the need, or you may need to poll a segment of the student population to generate evidence of the need. In addition, search for pricing information, perhaps on the web, perhaps through contact with service providers. Always keep an accurate, clear record of your sources. Document those sources appropriately. Failure to acknowledge a source through documentation is plagiarism.

Proposal Submission: you may

1) email me your Google Docs document as an attachment to a professional group email OR
2) convert your Google Docs document to a Word document before submitting it on Blackboard.

Important! Keep good notes about your proposal process including team participation, work distribution, and effectiveness of the team. You will return to this process for your final exam memo in which you will write an assessment of the team and of the process.
