Discussion: Interpreting Ancient Visual Communication

You are now asked to view and interpret an ancient and now largely extinct form of visual communication and post about the underlying context of the images that you see. Try to put the work of art in its historical context. What are the various meanings of the images that are used by the artist and how does the artist re-interpret these (what did they mean when this was created)? What parts of this particular work of art are difficult to decipher given the changes that have occurred since its creation or your own distance (in terms of age) from its creation?
