Completing your Essay Assignment

Assemble your notes that you made at the gallery or museum along with your additional research.
Outline and write your paper to include the following:

Title: A critique and analysis of [name of artwork] by [name of Artist]

Image: (***Please insert an image of the artwork.)

I. Short biography and history of the artist, including influences. Include any historical comments from your additional research.

II. Methods, materials and description of the work.

III. What does the artist say about this work? What was she trying to accomplish? Why did she create this particular work?

IV. Your reaction and opinions. Did the artist accomplish his goal? Was the work well done? Do you judge this piece to be successful?

What is your visceral (your gut) reaction? Did your opinion change from the first moment you saw the piece to the writing of your critique?

Additional requirements:

1. Written in MLA format (12 pt. Arial or Times font, double spaced, MLA heading and title, references correctly cited within the text, and included on a Works Cited page).

2. 500-600 words minimum with a minimum of three outside sources. One of your sources must be the museum website.

3. Last page should be a Works Cited page that is correctly formatted (Go to Citation Machine or a similar website for help with formatting the Work Cited page).

Submit your rough draft.
