Short stories the story of an Hour as well as a rose for Emily are story about two dissimilar lives of two women: both of them with strict men in their lives. One of the women is married also the other wishes to be married. Both of these stories end in death. One woman is looking for love as well as the other with so much hate that it killed her.

In A rose for Emily and Emily is severely ruled by her father and was not allowed to have other men in her live. For instance when Emily's father died she was so worried about being alone that she didn't want them to take his body. Later when her boyfriend strained to leave her, she killed him and his body wasn't discovered until after she died. Whereas in the story of an Hour, Mrs. Mallard has a man in her life as well as she wishes he was not. The reader can state from her thoughts that her husband was a very controlling man. Word of his death made her feel free as well as liberated to live her own life.

Emily wasn't married and always wanted to be. The element that her father would not let her probably drove her mad. She ended up alone, when her life's wants was to share it with another. While Mrs. Mallard who was married wishes she could be freed from her binding marriage. Her marriage was unavoidably what killed her.

Both of these sections end in death. Both of the chief female characters died however for different reasons. Emily murdered her boyfriend so that he would not leave her as well as she eventually died of old age. Mrs. Mallard thought her husband was dead leaving her "free, free, free" (Chopin) as well as the reality of his return caused her so much grief that she died.

Finally both women die with a broken heart. One woman Emily had each man in her life die or leaves her and the other woman, Mrs. Mallard, last from the fact that her husband was, in fact, alive. Both stories are tragic as well as deal with love and hate, which are both influential themes throughout all the literature.

In this scene, the author uses the precise blood that runs through Mrs. Mallard's veins to demonstration how her body was relaxing with happiness afterward hearing the news of her husband's death. The imagery permits you to better understand the character.

A review of "A Rose for Emily" states that "other people inspiration our behaviours and development." (Jones) This is a central theme throughout the short story, as well as one that touches all of us as we go about our daily lives interacting with others. The reviewer considers that the influence of the townspeople, Emily's father as well as Homer have a negative effect on Emily both physically as well as mentally.

The effect of the two men in her life harshly limited her mental and social development. Emily very rarely left the house as well as never let people inside.
