Assignment

In a well-written response to the article address the following:

1. Summarize Golway's basic position;

2. Discuss what rhetorical strategies (logos, pathos, ethos) Golway uses to reach his reader;

3. Discuss if you agree or disagree with Golway's view and why;

4. following the frame for a quotation in a paper, include at least TWO direct quotations from the article and cite using MLA (last name #);

5. choose one body paragraph from your essay and number each sentence in it according to the 5-step process for developing a body paragraph.

The length of your response is determined by you and how best to thoroughly address the above aspects of the essay. Follow the format for a formal essay by including introduction, body and conclusion paragraphs. This essay is your chance to show me your knowledge of and ability to use the strategies we discussed in class this semester.

For example, be sure the introduction paragraph has a hook and a thesis sentence. Grammar, spelling, and word choice count toward your final score. Avoid using simplistic vocabulary such as: good, great, very, bad, thing(s), got/get/gotten/getting, stuff, I, me, my, mine, you, a lot, kid(s), slang words, conversational language, and all contractions. Proofread carefully.
