GUIDELINES:

Descriptive Essay Guidelines: This is a 5 paragraph essay describing the three objects or three people or three places; as all essays, it must be in MLA format.

(1) Introductory paragraph should be five sentences long and the fifth sentence should be your thesis statement. Your paper should focus on something that has to be physically described and the things or people you describe should be related and should be of the same type. All three should be all images or all objects or all places or all people.

(2) Body paragraphs (total of 3): there should be a paragraph (5 or 6 sentences long) describing each object or each person or each place. The last sentence in each paragraph in the body of your essay should be a transition to the next paragraph.

(3) Specifically, your conclusion (3 to 4 sentences long) should accomplish three major goals:

• Restate the main idea of your essay, or your thesis statement
• Summarize the three sub points of your essay
• Leave the reader with an interesting final impression
• Include a call to action

REMEMBER: Use a total of five full paragraphs. This is a descriptive essay, so I want to see sensory details. Use concrete nouns (i.e. Doberman, not dog; BMW, not car) and present or simple past verbs. Avoid most "ing" verbs. Have a creative title. Your first paragraph must have a hook and thesis statement. Use MLA style format.
