Guidelines for the Reflective Essay

The purpose of this essay is to synthesize and reflect on what you have learned through the AFCI 101 course. You should choose at least two of the questions below to guide you as you write your reflective essay. You should begin your reflective essay with a brief introduction, then, address the questions you have chosen (from the list below), and provide a brief conclusion. The essay should be 2-5 type-written pages, double spaced, with 12-point font (either Arial or Times New Roman). You are not required to use any references for this essay; however, if you do choose to incorporate any ideas or thoughts that are not your own, you must use MLA guidelines to give credit to the appropriate sources.

Remember, you are responsible for adhering to the USCA Honor Pledge that you signed on the inside cover of this portfolio.

Questions for the Reflective Essay

Choose any two of the following to guide your Reflective Essay.

• Describe a moment when you were most engaged in the AFCI 101 course. What was it about that experience that made you feel intellectually challenged?

• How has the AFCI 101 course helped you develop critical thinking and inquiry skills? How do you think taking the AFCI 101 course has contributed to your ability to be successful at the university?

• How have the activities and assignments in the AFCI 101 class, including your Information Literacy assignment and project (documented in this portfolio), contributed to your understanding of critical inquiry?

• Think about your experience reading and discussing the first-year reading. What is one theme or idea in the book that you relate to most closely, and how has your thinking about that theme or idea changed as a result of your involvement in discussions about the book in your AFCI 101 class?
