ESSAY 1

This essay assignment is a personal narrative

Draft a 300-word (minimum) personal narrative essay about yourself.

Create your own title. Do not use "About Me" as a title.

ESSAY 2

Read the David Brooks essay on pp. 106-108, Everything's an Argument with Readings 7th Ed. If you do not yet have a textbook, refer to the link provided a few paragraphs below to access the Brooks essay.

Draft a persuasive response (400-word minimum) that provides and supports your opinion about Brooks's claim below:

Most successful young people don't look inside and then plan a life. They look outside and find a problem, which summons their life. A relative suffers from Alzheimer's and a young woman feels called to help cure that disease. A young man works under a miserable boss and must develop management skills so his department can function. Another young woman finds herself confronted by an opportunity she never thought of in a job category she never imagined. This wasn't in her plans, but this is where she can make her contribution.

Most people don't form a self and then lead a life. They are called by a problem, and the self is constructed gradually by their calling (Brooks).
Also provide your opinion about the author's contention that "doing your job well often means suppressing yourself."

Develop a thesis for Daily Writing 1.2 and underline it in the introductory paragraph of your essay. Before developing a thesis for your essay, browse the glossary (pp. 793-799), paying particular attention to the definitions of argument, audience, claim, fallacy of argument, and logical appeal. When forming a thesis in EH 1302, use "A Word about the Thesis" as primary guidance. is attach below.

Use and cite the David Brooks online source (not the textbook) in the Works Cited section (MLA format style). Do not use or cite any other source. The image below is an example of the correct David Brooks article full citation.

Work cited

Brooks, David. "It's Not about You." 30 May 2011. The New York Times.

Use no more than two short direct quotations from the article. A short quotation is fewer than five lines of text. Make sure that the text of your essay includes an in-text citation for each Brooks quotation (Brooks).

Begin the Works Cited section at the end of your essay. The section must be titled Works Cited centered at the top of the page, followed by the citation.

The Works Cited page must be numbered. For example, if the last page of the text of your essay is 2, then the Works Cited section will begin on Page 3. The Works Cited page is not a separate document

For correct formatting, see attachment below

When you review the model essay, notice that there is one short quote (from research) in the paper. Most of the writing in the paper is created by the student, not quoted from another source.

Your response must be a minimum of 400 words, including introduction, body, and conclusion. The Works Cited page is not included in the word count.
