4. Who is the writer's intended audience, and how can you tell? What clues are given in the text (language, genre, composition, etc.)? Be specific.

5. What is the writer's main claim, or thesis? Summarize the thesis in your own words.

6. What type of evidence is used to support that claim? How effective is that evidence?

7. Use evidence to support your analysis: You will need to include specific evidence from the text to support your analysis. For the evidence, you will need to include both quotations and paraphrases.

8. Direct quotations are introduced (set-up) and explained with proper MLA or APA parenthetical references.

9. At least 1-2 paraphrases are used, introduced (set-up), and explained with proper MLA or APA parenthetical references.

Writing Expectations:

• The essay should be 2 full pages, formatted in MLA or APA with proper in-text citations and a Works Cited/References page.
• The essay should be organized with sentences and paragraphs transitioning clearly and smoothly.
• Grammar and punctuation should adhere to college-level writing standards.
