Assignment: Workshop about a Literacy Memoir

The person who decides to do this homework needs to complete a workshop about a topic wich later a literacy memoir needs to be created from this topic. The workshop will be attached.

TOPIC: How English creates a limitation for people who use English as a second language.

Explanation: As a bilingual student, sometimes I find it difficult to express myself in English because Spanish has so many words that can be used to express my self and what I feel. English isn't that way and this affects my way of communicating and learning.

LITERACY MEMOIR PLANNING & STORY MAP

Directions: Select one of your brainstorming activities to elaborate on for this project. Use the questions below to help guide you through creating vivid character and setting, as well as to identify your major plot points (both rising and falling action), climax and resolution, characters, theme, and other story elements.

1. List all possible characters below. Under each, describe them physically, explain how they will function in the story, and identify the protagonist and antagonist (IF the antagonist is a person-if not, list the protagonist and describe briefly why it is the thing that the protagonist struggles against).

2. List all possible settings. Underneath each setting, jot down as much detail as you can remember about that setting. Try to use ALL FIVE senses.

3. What kind of contrary will your story exhibit (see the textbook)? Explain why and how (i.e. if old self vs. new self, describe old self and then describe new self-think about how you went from old to new)

4. List your major plot points (rising action). Avoid an "and then" narrative; rather, think about the major 3-5 events that will move the story along. While it is interesting that you wake up, or that you move from place to place, it is MORE interesting when something actually happens!

5. What is your climax? Why is this the climax? Describe this climax-who take part? What happens? What does the setting look like? What were your thoughts and feelings in the moment?

6. List your major plot points (denouement). Avoid an "and then" narrative; rather, think about the major 2-4 events that will move the story along. While it is interesting that you wake up, or that you move from place to place, it is MORE interesting when something actually happens!

7. What is the conclusion to this story? What should the audience take away from what you just told them and way? It may be helpful to think about the contrary here...

8. Describe your theme in a small paragraph of five or more sentences.
