Summary:

You will interview a professional working full time in the field of public relations or the media(i.e. not a student or a teacher, etc.) as well as research the topic on your own.

(Be careful of titles, which does not always determine if they are a true practitioner, Director of communications could be a public relations professional.

Use two cited sources, (you may cite the text as a third source)

Sources include industry publication, public relations sections of websites. The articles should reference the area you chose. Summarize the information as it relates to your interview subject and career field.

Find someone working in the field you've chosen, with the area of responsibility you chose. Below are some questions to ask.

1. What are his/her primary responsibilities? Ask for examples in the major area of interest you've selected.
2. What is his/her background and how did it qualify them from their current position?
3. Describe a typical day or week.
4. What is satisfying and rewarding in the position?
5. What is most challenging?
6. What predictions does he/she have for the future of public relations.

We read the chapter on TV. Do a little outside research to discuss the current trends in TV viewership, technology and other aspects and discuss your educated guess on the future of TV. What do you see happening? Any big changes upcoming? How does internet streaming, Netflix, DVRs and other aspects of viewership affect television? What is your own personal experience with TV watching at present - has it changed or do you see it changing in the near future? Why or why not?
