Look over the essays by Elizabeth Martinez and Roger Kimball. Do you think either of them would find Bharati Mukherjee's essay persuasive? What does Mukherjee say that might cause either of them to relax their positions about American identity?
Do you think any further information might help to bring either side to Mukherjee's consensus position? For example, Kimball mentions the "Letter from an American Farmer" by de Crevecoeur, who describes Americans as a new "race" of blended nationalities, leaving behind their ties and allegiances to former lands.
How is Crevecouer's idea of the "new race" similar to Mukherjee's?

Use at least 4 sources that you have found in your research. Be sure complete an annotated bibliography for those sources and include it at the end of your essay. Also, be sure to cite your references or direct quotes from your sources in your essay.
