As technology seemingly makes the globe seem smaller, our nation faces the dilemma of understanding its role in this increasingly complex world. Where the rules of engagement were once clearly marked, today these demarcations can often appear to be blurred and inconsistent. How the U.S. interacts with the world through trade, immigration, and military policies helps us understand our role in the world. Your assignment this week is to use the assigned course materials to explore the changing definitions of American society.

In a pluralistic society, special interests argue for control over the direction of the nation's immigration or trade policies. Examine the immigration policy stances of two organizations: one American political party (Democrat, Republican) and one Special Interest group. Using the C3P1 Assignment Chart, examine the similarities and differences between the two organizations by examining their stated policies. To fulfill this assignment you will need to research a credible source that is external to this course. Provide the link to your source. Provide a 300 word summary of your findings. Demonstrate what you learned in this phase by using your critical thinking skills and by referencing three of the assigned reading documents from the current phase and one assigned reading document from a previous phase. Specifically, indicate whether the rhetorical stance of either group (political party, special interest) aligns with the facts provided in the assigned course materials.

Once you have posted your assignment, engage the assignments of three other students. Post a comment which examines the conclusion of the student's assignment. Why do organizations take stances which often do not align with the readily available facts?
The rubric for this assessment will be used to provide feedback on your work. Review the rubric and use it to guide your work.
