An experiment was performed to determine the Ksp of Ca(OH)_2_. A solution containing 2.00 x ^-2 M Ca(NO3)_2_ was saturated with Ca(OH)_2_ and filtered. Two samples of the saturated solution were titrated with 5.021x10^-2 M HCI, in order to determine the OH^- ion concentration in the saturated solution.
In doing this problem, note that 1 mol of HCI reacts with 1 mol of OH^- ions. This relationship is the basis for the determination of the OH^- ion concentration: 1 mol Ca^2+ ions are produced for every 2 moles of OH^- ions produced. The resulting form this experiment are shown below: Student date KSP of Ca(OH)_2_
Volume of saturated Ca(OH)_2_ solution titrated, mL____Determination #1 52.2 Determination #2 48.7
Volume of 5.021x10 ^-2 M HCI required, mL------Determination #1 16.44 Determination #2 15.49
Temperature of saturated solution 20.4
