A two to three page analysis of the film "Even the Rain"(Tambien la Lluvia), a 2010 film by Icíar Bollaín, and our primary sources in Lepore's Encounters in the New World, the section on "The Great Debate"- specifically, the documents by Bartolomé de las Casas and Juan Jinés de Sepulveda on the subjugation of native peoples in the Americas.

Brief description of the film: This award-winning film focuses on two compelling stories: the Conquest of the Caribbean in 1492, the roles of Christopher Columbus and Bartolomé de las Casas, and the consequences of the Conquest on the 5 million Taino indigenous people who lived there (as well as on the 70 million Native peoples who lived in the Americas); and the 1990s wave of Neoliberal reforms throughout Latin America where even water, in the case of Bolivia's highlands (Cochabamba), came to be privatized. You'll relate the film themes to our course themes- specifically, to "The Great Debate" primary sources in Lepore.
