A golf ball is hit horizontally off of a 5 story building, which is roughly 20 meters tall. The initial horizontal velocity in the positive x-direction is 5 m/s.

1. What is the vertical or y-component of the acceleration (ay) of the golf ball as it falls? Give magnitude, direction, and units.

2. What is the horizontal or x-component of the acceleration (ax) of the golf ball as it falls? Give magnitude, direction, and units.

3. Does the vertical or y-component of the velocity (vy) of the golf ball change as it falls? (i.e. Does the velocity in the y direction speed up or slow down?)

4. Does the horizontal or x-component of the velocity (vx) of the golf ball change as it falls? (i.e. Does the velocity in the x direction speed up or slow down?)

5. What is the instantaneous velocity in the y-direction at t = 2 seconds. This is the same thing as asking, "How fast is it falling after 2 seconds?

6. What is the instantaneous velocity in the x-direction at t = 2 seconds. This is the same thing as asking, "How fast is it moving horizontally after 2 seconds?

7. How long does it take the gold ball to hit the ground? Hint: Calculate the time it takes to fall knowing the distance it falls in the y-direction? d= vo*t + (1/2)a*t2

8. How far does the golf ball travel in the x-direction before it hits the ground? Hint: You now want to use the same distance equation as in question #7, but you want everything to be x-components.

Instantaneous velocity = vo + g*t (please turn over for questions 9 and 10)

9. A cannon is shot at a 70 degree angle with respect to the ground and with the following initial velocity components: Vy = 60 m/s and Vx = 25 m/s. How long (how much time) does it take the cannonball to reach the top of its path?

10. For the same cannon as above, what is the velocity of the cannonball when it is at its highest point? (Careful! This one is tricky!)
