6. Give the structure of the product that the BASF chemist (see "Unexpected Outcomes in Chemistry") should have obtained from the reaction of naphthalene with an equivalent amount of sulfuric acid if he hadn't broken his mercury thermometer.

7. (a) Outline a synthesis of 2-3-dimethy1-1,3-butadiene (the product Willy Hackett was trying to make) from 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene. (b) Outline the synthesis of a rubber-like polymer that can be made from this diene.
