1. Take 7 test tubes from the Glassware shelf and place them on the workbench.

2. Add 1g of the seven metals on the chemicals shelf (Ag, Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg, Pb, Zn) into the seven test tubes, one metal per test tube.

3. Take a 250 mL beaker from the Glassware shelf and place it on the workbench.

4. Add 100 mL of water from the Chemicals shelf to the beaker.

5. Take a Bunsen burner from the Tools shelf and drop it directly on the beaker of water.

6. Open the Properties window, and click on the Bunsen burner. In the Properties window, turn the Bunsen burner on and select the low flame.

7. Once the water starts to boil, remove the beaker from the Bunsen burner and place it on the workbench.

8. Pour 10 mL of the hot water from the beaker into each of the seven test tubes. Watch for evidence of a reaction.

9. Add 2 drops of phenolphthalein to each test tube to test for the presence of OH? ions, indicating that the metal reacted with the water. Record your observations.

Questions:

1. List the metals that reacted with warm water.

2. For those metals that did react, write molecular and net-ionic equations.
