1) Begin a new search using Google. You are welcome to use the same search term that you used last week, or create a new one. Tell me the term you use. Remember, the search should relate to your dream career in some way.

2) Click "show search tools" on the right column of the search results page. (No writing required for this step).

3) Choose one of the "Any Time" options to narrow your search results. Tell me which one you picked, and why. What did this do to your search results? Do you think limiting your search results by time is valuable for this particular topic? Why / why not?

4)Remove the "time" restriction. You can do this by either hitting the "back" button on your browser to return to your initial search, or by clicking the "x" button at the top of the results list next to the time option you chose. No writing required.

5) Choose the "reading level" option on the right. This will show you how your search results compare in terms of written complexity. Try viewing one each of the "basic," "intermediate" and "advanced" results. What are your observations of the results of each reading level? Which level seems most appropriate for your needs right now?

6) Remove the reading level restriction, in the same way you removed the time restriction. No writing required.

7) Choose the "Related Searches" option in the list on the left. Explore 2-3 of these new search terms. Which, if any, seem the most helpful in providing information about your future career?

8) Summarize this activity. Now that you've tried out 3 of Google's Advanced Search features, which ones seem the most useful? Which would you continue to use in future searches? What other items on the list of Google search tools to the left seem worth exploring? Write a short paragraph that addresses at least some of these questions.
