Web Page Evaluation
Website design is different for a full screen browser than for smaller devices. The Mobile Web Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) recommends best practices for mobile-friendly content. In this Application, you will evaluate the content of a web page and report how well it may display on handheld devices.
To prepare for this Application:
- Identify a web page that you visit regularly and copy its URL.
- Use a mobile web page evaluator, such as mobiReady or W3C mobileOK Checker, and generate a report for your selected URL.
- Review the report and identify strengths and weaknesses of the web page for mobile use. These may include the following:
- Bandwidth requirements for page and graphics
- Standard and valid markup
- Poorly supported elements such as scripting, plug-ins, frames
- External resources
- Page layout, content, structure, and navigation
- User inputs
Then, write a 2- to 3-page memo to the owner of the web page in which you include the following:
- Identify the web page you chose and summarize your findings from the evaluation report.
- Recommend actions to improve the page for mobile devices.
Your memo should be well organized and contain grammatically correct, complete sentences that are free of spelling errors. Your memo should conform to APA style.
