This is a problem for extra credit, I have worked some of it on paper but since it is for extra credit I am unable to ask the professor or TA for assistance and I am unsure on some of the answers, google helped but didn't help me as much to reach a conclusion on some questions.

Problem No 1.

Given a Class A network and a number of subnets required, please indicate the following details in the table specified below.

Number of Bits to Borrow for the Subnet Field

Number of IP addresses available to be assigned to a host device per subnet

Subnet Mast in Binary Representation

Subnet Mask in Decimal Representation

Number of Subnets Required

Subnet Mask in Binary Representation

Subnet Mask in Decimal Representation

10

20

80

400

2000

Your solution will be compared to a master solution. Each correct value in a cell earns one point. There are no partial credits. There are 20 cells in the table that need to be filled (20 points)

Problem No 2.

Assume that you have been assigned 192.168.111.129/28.

1. How many bits are borrowed to create the subnet field?

2. What is the maximum number of subnets that can be created with this number of bits?

3. How many bits can be used to create the host space?

4. What is the maximum number of possible IP addresses in the host space?

5. What is the maximum number of IP addresses that can be actually assigned to a host device in a subnet?

6. What is the subnet mask in binary representation?

7. What is the subnet mask in decimal representation?

8. Please complete the following table for the first 5 subnets

Subnet Number

Subnet Address

Range of IP addresses that can be assigned to a host device

Direct broadcast address

9. What subnet is 192.168.111.49 on?

10. Can a junior network administrator assign 192.168.111.31 as a static IP address for a computer on the network?

     Yes\No (

11. Can 192.168.111.64 be assigned as an IP address to a subnet?

      Yes\No
