The suggested word limit for the main body of the report is 3,000 for guidance (Excluding Abstract, Conclusion, Appendices, References & Bibliography). For section (1) You need to consider for each component part of construction chosen: Elements (e.g. outer wall, cavity, inner wall) Materials (e.g. bricks, blocks, concrete, etc.) Products (e.g. wall tie, dpc, lintel, etc.) You need to consider how your property can meet the general thrust of the approved documents.

You can illustrate the report amplified with sketches and notes. The brief notes should describe the requirement that each photograph is evidencing but should not be verbatim copies of the Approved Documents. For section (2) You need to consider for the service chosen: Internal services installations: should include entry to the building, distribution, equipment, interface with the structure, materials and function/principles of operation.

The external services installations: may include route of the service within the boundary, location and source of the supply network, and any relevant rules/ regulations from the provider. For section (3) You need to consider how your property can be improved to help the environment. For section (4) You need to refer to the Approved Documents and make a judgement as to the key points. For the drawings: Floor plans: you are expected to produce your own plans of the building at 1 floor level.

This should be done by surveying and measuring up. If such drawings are already available, you will need to re-draw/trace them;drawings by others will not be accepted. You should use your own drawings as a master either by hand or using CAD, and photocopy them to make a separate plan for marking up your chosen service.

Drawings must be clearly titled in the bottom right-hand corner, and reference made to them in the text where appropriate. Section Detail: you are expected to produce a section from the foundation to roof.

Elevation: you are expected to produce an elevation of your building. For section (5) You need to consider current Health and Safety Regulations. For section (6) 5 photographs should illustrate the report amplified. The brief notes should describe the requirement that each photograph such as elevation details or component parts. Report content: as soon as you start to actually explorethe construction of the elements and services, and look for the informationyou will find that the report begins writes itself.

Try to formulate the broad content of your report as early as possible to give your brain time to debate and evaluate the growing information - much of this can happen sub-consciously, but not until you have actually started properly! Appendices: you are encouraged to make proper use of an Appendix for information that cannot be incorporated in the main text.

This could be relevant to the history of the building, letters/information from service providers, literature from manufacturers of equipment etc. However, NO CREDIT will be given for merely including, or photocopying, published information which is NOT specifically relevant to your property, NOR properly cross-referenced to the text. Text & illustrations: the report is to be word-processed with sketches and/or drawings used to illustrate points being made. Floor plans should be A3 to remain easily readable when bound in to the report. It is also easier for us to read if you place sketch/drawings and other specific information with the relevant text, rather than in one pack at the end - remembering always to reference clearly between the text and attachments.

If photographs are used they must be fully captioned to show what they are being used to illustrate.

(NOTE: Scanning facilities are available). Binding: the preferred binding for the report is using the inexpensive plastic folders utilising punched holes and with a coloured back and clear covers. These can be purchased from the Students Union shop. On no account submit this work in a ring binder, a folder with a clipped binding nor with each sheet in its own plastic wallet! *the drowning my flat its mean flat aready built*
