The interrogator

The ideal representation of artificial intelligence (AI) is a scenario where a machine's intelligence mimics that of a human being. Though modern AI technology is continually advancing, the abstract and ambiguous manners in which people think makes it difficult for a logic-based computer to emulate. Nevertheless, computer programmers and robotics engineers are getting closer and closer to accurately mimicking humans with AI.

Back in 1950, it was Alan Turing that first suggested the notion of thinking machines and introduced the concept of the Turing Test. In short, this test is intended to measure the ‘intelligence' of a machine by asking a series of questions and comparing a machine's answers to that of a person's. For AI programmers the hope is to make their machine's answers indistinguishable from a human's answers. In this Discussion, you will take on the role of a Turing Test interrogator, and devise questions that will adequately test the ‘intelligence' of a machine.

To prepare for this Discussion:

· Review your Weekly Learning Resources with a focus on machine intelligence and the Turing Test.

· Research current news and AI advancements.

· Research existing Turing Tests.

· Reflect on questions that require abstract thought to answer.

To complete this Discussion:
Post: Create an initial post in which you propose at least five questions with which to administer a Turing Test. Address the following:

· Explain why a computer would have difficulty answering your questions.

· Explain how answering, or not answering, your questions would help you determine if your subject was a computer or a human being.

· Fully state and justify any choices, assumptions or claims that you make using the suggested Learning Resources for this Week and/or your own research.

Respond: Respond to your colleagues. Address the following:

· Provide additional questions that could further bolster your colleague's Turing Test, or challenge the validity of their questions by presenting examples of new AI technology that might be able to answer your colleague's questions humanly.

· Be sure to support any claims you make.
