TASK DESCRIPTION

Project: Animation

Using Adobe After Effects students are to create an animation.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

- Produce documents and present work in multimedia formats appropriate for the intended audience.
- Apply basic design elements, principles and techniques in different scenarios.
- Communicate information effectively in a multimedia format

Instructions

In this subject, we explore multimedia through the creation of an animation. Animations are created by presenting a sequence of frames containing still images, illustrations and or text, in such a way that there is the perception of motion. Sound can be added to the animation to create atmosphere and emphasis.

Computer animations are key elements in multimedia presentations. Through practical engagement in project-based learning you will develop processes, animation skills, and basic knowledge of Adobe After Effects to create a time-based visual animation. This animation shall be incorporated into your e-portfolio to demonstrate the broad set of skills you have developed over this semester.

Each week you will learn new techniques, learning how to animate still and moving images as well as understanding how to create and attach sound to your animation file.

Using the skills learned in class you will create an animation that incorporates moving image / transitions, text, layering, masking and sound. The finished file should be a minimum of thirty seconds, the rendered file must be embedded in your e-portfolio and the native file should be uploaded for marking to UTSOnline in the journal area.

Content

Depending on your interests you might use a series of images that inspire you, your own video or use the Photoshop images created for Assignment 1. The images will animate over time and have background sound.

Assessment Criteria
Evidence of a range of animation methods employed
Demonstration of an understanding of software and techniques learned in class

Use animation techniques skillfully to create an animation sequence that clearly realises intentions
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively via the animation using a combination of still and or moving images and audio.

Creative and effective approach to present an imaginative idea for an animation sequence
Ability to demonstrate thoughtful and innovative style in both the planning and development of the animation, consideration of animation principles which enhance and enrich the sequence.

Aesthetic impact of the design
Demonstrate an understanding and ability to apply basic design elements, principles, and techniques to create visual impact in the animation.

Creative and effective audio design

Demonstrated ability to determine the relevant sound components required to implement the sound design in line with creative and technical requirements of the animation.

Note - Time management is an important element of the successful completion of this project - appropriate use of class time is essential. Students should incorporate some reflection on time constraints and time management in the reflective component of the e-portfolio reflection on time constraints and time management in the reflective component of the e-portfolio
