Task 1 - 0-5v D to A converter

In this first section you are required to build an Arduino based DA converter. The main goal is to choose the converter parameters.

You are required to:

1. Design the system that produces 0-5V analog voltage output and displays main process variables using HyperTerminal (no scrolling). SP is to be displayed in milli-volts while PV is to be displayed in per cent. Include the raw value for both variables into your output.

2. The output voltage is to be set using a potentiometer connected to the pin Ao.

3. Check the accuracy of the SP readings against your multi-meter at 4.5V. Maximum deviation allowed is ± 10mV.

4. Make sure that the unfiltered PWM output reaches 0% and 100%. Provide the appropriate oscillograms.

5. Check weather your system maintains the set point after applying a load to the output of the system equal to the resistor of the RC filter. Do this check for SP = 1V, SP = 2.5V, SP = 4V. Provide suitable comments for each case.

Task 2 - Controlling the system via a serial link

You are required to:

1. Modify your system so that you are able to control the set point via serial communication to a PC. The SP value is to be sent in milli-volts.

2. Demonstrate the system performance. No load to be applied.

Task 3 - Adding feedback

In the second section you are required to build an Arduino based voltage tracker. The ultimate task of the system is to output analogue voltage that tracks the set point voltage. Set point sampling rate is 20ms.

You are required to:

1. Draw a detailed flow chart representing the control philosophy.

2. Draw a detailed circuit diagram of your system.

3. Assemble the system and capture the oscillogram showing the system response to sweeping the set point from o to 5V and back. Follow the requirements outlined below:

a) Use a potentiometer connected to pin Ao to generate the set point for the system.

b) The feedback is to be acquired via pin A1.

c) The PWM is to be generated using pin 10.

4. Obtain an oscillogram that proves that the set point sampling rate is 20ms.

5. Check that your system maintains the set point after applying a load to the output equal to the resistor of the RC filter. Do this check for SP = 1V, SP = 2.5V, SP = 4V. Provide suitable comments for each case.
