Select a very interesting topic in MECHANICAL ENGINEERING and give a well detailed write up according to the procedure.

Once the initial brief for the project has been clarified, the tutor's role is of a counselling rather than a directing nature. Part of the module will be devoted to the presentation of findings. After the final presentations, feedback/debriefing will be given to enable students to benefit from comments on good and bad practice.

Employers will be involved in the presentation, where possible. Students will have access to a wide variety of physical resources, depending on the specific project. Other data sources and reprographic facilities will also need to be readily accessible. Where possible the work will be related to industry in order to bring realism and relevance to the project.

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:

1. Select a project and agree specifications and procedures.

2. Implement the project within agreed procedures and to specification.

3. Evaluate the project.

4. Present project outcome.

Evidence of outcomes will be in the form of a written or computer-based report supported by a fully documented log book and an oral presentation. It will cover all four learning outcomes.

Assessment Criteria
OUTCOME 1
• Establish and record possible project specifications.
• Identify the factors which contribute to the process of project selection.
• Establish and record possible project specifications.
• Identify and agree a project for an engineering application.
• Prepare project specification and procedures.

OUTCOME 2
• Implement the chosen option to meet the agreed specification.
• Record and collate relevant data.

OUTCOME 3
• Describe and use appropriate project evaluation techniques.
• Interpret and justify the results in terms of the original specifications.

OUTCOME 4
• Produce a record of all procedures and results.
• Present the details of the project in a suitable format, using appropriate media.
