Security through obscurity...this expression suggests that proprietary software is more secure because it is closed. If hackers cannot see the code, then it will be more difficult for them to create exploits...or so the thinking goes.

Unfortunately for Windows users, this thought is simply not true--as evidenced by the never-endingpatches(http://www.pcworld.com/article/202353/microsoft_rushes_unscheduled_patch_for_shortcut_flaw.html) coming out. In fact, one of Linux's many advantages over Windows (http://www.pcworld.com/article/201731/10_reasons_to_dump_windows_and_use_linux.html) is that it is much more secure. For small businesses and organizations without a dedicated security experts, more security is critical.

So now let's debate! In this discussion post:

  • Take a position and describe why you believe that Linux is more secure than Windows operating systems or why Windows is more secure than Linux operating systems. You should have three to five key points.
  • Use credible sources to defend your position and cite these sources in APA format.

Please be aware that part of your grade for all Discussion Forums is based on whether you use/cite Sourcesin answering the original question. (This is worth 10% of your Discussion grade.) Please do some online research for this topic and list references to websites you use in learning about these topics.
