Question: Determine How Much Memory Is Being Used on Your Computer or Mobile Device If your computer or mobile device is running slowly, it could be running low on memory.A number of factors can contribute to the slow performance, but checking the memory usage is fast and easy. If the computer or mobile device's memory is almost all used, you may be able to determine which programs and apps are using the most memory. Exiting these programs and apps may make more memory available and increase a computer or mobile device's performance. The following steps guide you through the process of determining how much memory is being used on a computer or mobile device.

a. Restart the computer or mobile device.

b. If necessary, sign in to the operating system.

c. Navigate to the window or screen showing a list of running tasks. On a computer, you may be able to search for the Task Manager or Activity Monitor. On a mobile device, a list of running processes may be found in the system settings.

d. Tap or click the option to show the list of running processes. This list will show you how much memory each process is using. This list also includes the programs and apps currently running. If you notice that a program or app is consuming a high amount of memory, consider exiting the program or app to make the memory available.

e.  When you are finished, return to the desktop or home screen

Exercises: 1. How much memory is installed on your computer or mobile device? How much currently is being used?

2. Which three processes are using the largest amount of memory on your computer or mobile device?

3. If the programs and apps you run consume nearly all available memory on your computer or mobile device, what additional steps might you be able to take?
