Problem Statement

ScenicTours offers a number of guided tours, such as guided walks and bus tours, through the city and its surroundings. The company operates a number of sales outlets across the city and also runs a call centre where tourists can inquire and book available tours. To improve customer service and reduce processing time, ScenicTours aims to develop an information system where customers can view and manage bookings using their Web browser at any time.

The company has different tour packages available, each visiting multiple scenic sites, monuments and other points of interest. Typically, customers inquire about tours that visit a specific point of interest, such as museums and parks, or that depart or end in a specific location, while others are interested in tours that satisfy their special needs. For example, some customers prefer bus tours over walks, and tours exceeding a certain length may not be suitable for some customers.

ScenicTours maintains an information system that holds up-to-date information about its tour packages. It includes the type of tour (guided walk or bus tour), departure schedules, visited locations, and maximum number of participants. Staff have observed that customers are more likely to participate in a tour if they are shown the tour's route and brief information about each visited point of interest. Currently, a printed map is used to convey this information. Perhaps the Google Maps service could be utilised in a Web environment.

Customers must purchase tickets to participate in a tour. Tickets can be purchased either by phone or in any sales outlet. When purchasing by phone, tickets will be mailed to the customer's address after payment.

The company also offers a reward program, the "FrequentTourist" membership program. Registered members as well as groups larger than 10 persons are eligible for a 5% discount.

Customers may cancel their tickets until 48 hours prior to the start of the tour. In this case, 80% of the ticket price is refunded. Since tours are profitable only if three or more persons participate, some tours may be cancelled if some of its participants withdraw. In this case, affected customers are notified by phone or email (contact details were recorded when purchasing the tickets) and are given the option to transfer to another available tour that suits their needs or to cancel their tickets.

Tour operator "ScenicTours" has hired you( assume that you are the System Analyst) to conduct the feasibility study for the company's new sales system and propose the system design for this application
