This research paper will compare and contrast Holism(Systems Thinking) versus Reductionism.  The research paper must be submitted using Safe Assign.

  • The paper will be five pages: 
    • (a) Briefly describe Holismand Reductionism as it pertains to the development of a system.  Compare and contrast the two methods -1 page
    • (b) Consider the development of a new electric vehicle.  Using the concept ofholism, develop the overall system requirements for the vehicle.  Be sure to consider the method in which the vehicle will be used (i.e. allow riders to travel inside the vehicle on roadways, highways, etc.).  Also, be sure to consider the other systems the vehicle must be compatible/interact with (i.e. how will the vehicle get the needed energy to perform its objectives?) -2 pages
    • (c) Considering the same electric vehicle, use the concept ofreductionismto determine the requirements for the sub-systems.  What requirements must the sub-systems fulfill in order for the electric vehicle to fulfill its overall system requirements?  Some sub-systems to consider are the engine, transmission, and electrical system. -2 pages
