Arbitron Media Research Inc. conducted a study of the iPod listening habits of men and women in New York City in the year 2010. One facet of the study involved the mean listening time. The mean listening time for men and women was 35 minutes per day with a standard deviation of the 9 minutes. A recent repeat of the study with a sample of 10 men and women provided the following data. The mean listening time remained 35 minutes, but the standard deviation of the sample was 12 minutes. At the .05 significance level, can we conclude there was an increase in the variation in the listening times for the men and women?
