In this project you use the ALE equation to compute possible financial loss from computer attacks:

1. For this project assume that an organization has five total servers. One server has a TCO of $25,000, two servers have a TCO of $37,000 and the remaining two servers have a TCO of $42,000. The servers are not used by internal employees but are used by Web visitors. All five servers bring in a total of $5 million a year. Compute the total asset value of each of the five servers.

2. To recover from a Web attack on any one server, it would take approximately 14 hours to rebuild four of the servers and 37 hours to rebuild the remaining server. If the servers are required to be on-line 8,750 hours per year, compute the EF for each server.

3. Since the security mechanisms for the five Web servers offer moderate protection, a Web attack is estimated to occur once per yea. What is the ALE for a Web attack for each of the five servers?

4. What is the total ALE for the entire organization for a Web attack that damages all five servers at the same time?
