In an M /M /1 queue, there are only two waiting places available; when these are filled, arrivals are permanently lost. The person in service does not occupy one of the waiting places. Define the states of the system; obtain the equilibrium equations for the state probabilities; find the probability generating function, and by differentiation of this function obtain the mean value of the number in the system.
