We all have studied about the "span of control" in chapter 4. I am providing three job descriptions below. Please share your opinion for the span of managerial control in each situation. Also explain why you think so.

a.  The manager of a garage give directions to several mechanics, deals with customers, and also provide training to some unskilled labor and oversees their work.

b.  A physician is practicing medicine in a privately owned clinic. He also supervises 5 nurses and his office staff.

c.  The manager of a global advertising agency supervises a professional team located in various countries of the world.

Decentralization is a widely debated topic and is often related to the management and conservation of natural resources. Even though the principles and objectives of decentralization are well known yet there exist controversial ideas regarding its effectiveness and potentiality in managing and conserving natural resources of our planet. Moreover, even if decentralization strategies are well implemented, their results appear as to be positive for some countries while negative for the others. So my questions is that does decentralization really have any positive contribution towards management and conservation of natural resources? Please share your thoughts on the same.

It is often claimed that many of the corporate bodies today require increased amount of technological sophistication. This rapid movement towards technical assistance has led to an inclination towards and preference for work specialization. Please share your opinion regarding the consequences of a sharp increase in work specialization. Throw light on both positive as well as negative consequences.

I agree with your thought Abdullah. I also feel that today's global world requires professionals to specialize in some particular field especially in technical curriculum. So the world is shifting towards job specialization. I think that inclination towards job specialization is improving performances because the employee's mind is not diverted then in different fields and they can concentrate on one single job they have specialization of. However this has negative consequences on companies because earlier when people could perform multiple tasks at a time, that resulted in cost savings but now due to job specialization, the companies have to employ each person for each specific task and thus adding to the overall cost of operation.
