Format for the 448/548 Research Project/Paper

The Image Processing and Computer Vision Research Project/Paper is designed to be an opportunity for you explore a particular branch of this diverse field in more depth than can be done in the lecture format of the class. There are a range of options for the Project/Paper from a heavily programming-centric development of a prototype vision or image processing system to a writing-only research paper on a particular topic.

For a research paper, the paper shall be in the form of a 10 page (single spaced 12 point Times New Roman font) document. The outline for the document shall be as follows:

I. INTRODUCTION

2. TECHNICAL DISCUSSION

3. CONCLUSIONS AND AREAS OF POSSIBLE FUTURE WORK

4. REFERENCES

The Technical Discussion section must be in-depth and show that you have a clear understanding of the material.

For a programming-centric project shall be an in-depth software simulation to demonstrate your understanding of a particular computer vision or image processing technology. The deliverables are working code and a brief written portion, of only 2-3 pages (single spaced 12 point Times New Roman font) written in the following format:

1. INTRODUCTION AND BRIEF TECHNICAL DISCUSSION

2. RESULTS DISCUSSION

3. CONCLUSIONS AND AREAS OF POSSIBLE FUTURE WORK

4. REFERENCES

5. APPENDIX OF IMAGE SCREEN SHOTS (outside the 2-3 page count)

6. APPENDIX OF CODE (outside the 2-3 page count)

Be sure to thoroughly comment your code so it can serve as a document of your work. Please provide screen shots or other suitable means to show the code running, rather than providing me simply MATLAB code. Do not simply find code from some website as that is also a form of plagiarizing. The coding exercise should be considerably greater than any single homework assignment.
