Download and Install a Browser-Based Password Management Application One of the drawbacks to using a password management application like KeePass is that it must be launched whenever a password must be retrieved or the program must be left open, which could be a security risk. An option is to use a browser-based password management application that retrieves the passwords automatically. One example of a browser-based password storage application is LastPass, which enables you to access your passwords from any computer. In this project, you download and install LastPass.

1. Use your Web browser to go to lastpass.com and click Free - Download LastPass (be sure not to select "Get LastPass Premium"). It is not unusual for Web sites to change the location where files are stored. If the preceding URL no longer functions, then open a search engine and search for "LastPass."

2. Click Watch screencast tutorials to learn the basics.

3. Click Basic Instructions to open the tutorial screen, and then click the Play button in the middle of the screen.

4. When the Basic Instructions tutorial has completed, click your browser's Back button.

5. Click Watch screencast tutorials to learn the basics again.

6. Click How to Automatically Fill Webpage Forms With 1 Click to open the tutorial screen, and then click the Play button in the middle of the screen.

7. When the tutorial has completed, click your browser's Back button.

8. Click the Download xxbit button (where xx is either 32- or 64-bit, depending on your computer) to download LastPass.

9. Click Save to save the downloaded program.

10. After the program has downloaded, click Run and follow the instructions for the default installation.

11. Under Step 2, be sure that I do not have a LastPass account, create one for me is selected. Click Next.

12. Enter your e-mail address and create a password. Be sure to remember this information. Enter a Password Reminder.

13. Be sure the three check boxes are selected and then click Next.

14. Enter your password again and click Save.

15. Be sure that Yes, let me choose which items I want imported into LastPass is selected. Click Next.

16. If LastPass finds any passwords stored in your Web browser, you can import them. Click Next when finished.

17. In Step 4, click No, do not remove any insecure items. Click Next.

18. Click Done.

19. When asked Would you like to view a short video tutorial on how to use LastPass? click No.

20. Click OK.

21. Close all windows.
