There are a large number of opportunities for get faster through parallelizing a Database Management System (DBMS). However, the actual purpose of parallelism required depends very more on the function area that the Database management system is used for. For example, in the financial sector the DBMS usually is used for small easy transactions, but with a high number of transactions per/sec. On the other hand in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) situation (e.g., VLSI design) the transactions would be lengthy and with low traffic rates. On the other hand, in text query system the database would undertake few updates, but would be required to do difficult pattern matching queries over a large number of entries. An instance of a computer designed to pace up database queries is the Teradata computer, which employs parallelism in dealing out complex queries.
