1. Data Background

In this assignment, you will make use of employee data adapted from IBM Watson Sample Datasets.1

The data have been treated for the purpose of this assignment, hence please make use of the data available in OLIVE instead of referring to IBM Watson site directly.

There are a total of five Comma-Separated Values (CSV) data files, and one MS Excel data dictionary available.

For this assignment, you will need to understand the data provided and determine how data should be loaded and linked in your dashboard application. In the process of doing this, should you find some fields provided to be unnecessary for your dashboard, you can choose to omit them.

2. Tasks Overview

You are required to create a BI Dashboard by using appropriate data analysis techniques and methods to produce data visualizations which could be used to provide actionable business insights. Your developed dashboard should focus on ANY ONE of the follow aspects of Human Resource:

1. Employee remuneration
2. Employee retention
3. Employee performance
4. Employee progression
5. Employee development
6. Employee satisfaction

In your report, you will need to include some questions that would help you focus your work. For example, if you decided that you want to look at Employee retention, some questions that you might want to focus on would include:
1. What is the breakdown of employee attrition by department?
2. What is the breakdown of employee attrition by employee profile?
3. What profile of staff are most likely to attrite?

Guideline for Dashboard Development

a) Read all relevant data files into Qlikview.

b) Link all the data files together to make sure data model table viewer does not have synthetic keys

c) Dashboard Layout:

a. The dashboard should have a cover page, title and sheet name

b. You can have more than one sheet for your dashboard. However, all related information should be displayed in the same sheet.

c. Include appropriate navigation mechanisms such as current selection box, clear button, list boxes, table boxes etc.

d. Include appropriate selection tools such as list boxes, sliders which can allow users to quickly segment / drill down data.
Please note that there is no expectation that you make use of all the provided data fields. There is also no expectation that you use all the different chart types covered in the subject. You should present data using the visualization that you deem most appropriate.

3. Deliverables

The deliverable for this assignment will be a report that is not more than 5 pages excluding cover page, references and appendix. The report must be in either MS Word or Adobe PDF format.

Guideline for Report

Prepare a report for your dashboard detailing the following:

a) Problem(s) you discovered in the original data, and how these problems would impact the dashboard's ability to answer the given queries. Be sure to indicate strategies employed to resolve these identified problems.

b) Your findings and recommendations to the organization, based on any insights you have gained through the use of your dashboard.
Please ensure that proper acknowledgement and referencing are included (if applicable). Please also ensure that the report is preceded by the cover page and declaration of originality of work provided in Annex A and B respectively.

Since you will not be submitting your dashboard for this assignment, please ensure that your report is comprehensive enough for the marker to appreciate the work you have done.

Your report should include the following:

- An introduction section providing the background and aims of your assignment, be sure to include your focus questions for the assignment.

- A section detailing your data import script (you can reduce the font size/spacing if required).

- A screenshot of your final data model showing how the various tables are connected.

- Screenshots showing the overall layout of the sheets in your dashboard.

- Screenshots of key charts which could be used to answer your focus questions.

- Problem(s) you discovered in original data and how these problems would impact your dashboard's ability to answer the given business questions. Strategies employed to resolve these identified problems.

- Your findings and recommendations based on any insights you have gained through the use of your dashboard.
