1/ Assignment Compliance.

Demonstrate an ability to follow and fulfil the specifications of a visual design brief. These points are awarded on the basis of an assignment being submitted within the time allocated and in the format specified by the assignment brief.

Important Note:

Be sure to follow the presentation and submission criteria of this brief carefully. A stated learning outcome of this unit/course is the ability to practice within a framework of professionalism. This requires you to follow the specifications of a creative brief. Assignment work that does not fulfil the presentation and submission criteria of this brief will not be graded. In particular:

• Don't submit copies of the images created in the tutorials. Create your own unique images.
• Create and submit 2 images
• Submit Images as 2 separate JPEG image files. Don't submit Photoshop files
• Make sure that the 2 images are based on just 1 of the assignment options. E.g. don't submit 1 image from each of the 2 options.

2/ Technical. 10 points out of 25.

Demonstrate technical proficiency through the successful and confident utilisation of the software techniques and tools demonstrated in the tutorial.

This requires you to provide evidence of the following techniques and skills, if and when they're appropriate to the requirements of your imagery.

• Compose forms from multiple smaller image elements.
• Compose forms seamlessly as demonstrated in the tutorial. No visible trace of the straight edged selection tool should be visible in the image
• Use step-and-repeat transformations of smaller image elements to build larger forms.

3/ Creative. 10 points out of 25.

Demonstrate creative proficiency and evidence of visual experimentation to produce original and visually effective images. The wide range of image themes possible with this assignment makes it difficult to define a set range of assessment criteria for creativity. However, a universal criterion is thematic and formal unity. What ever you choose to portray, the creative challenge of this assignment will be to make a cohesive and unified composition that is greater than the sum of its many small parts. (...Less is sometimes more) Although complexity and high amounts of detail can be aesthetically pleasing in an image, the elegance of a simple solution is often more demanding to achieve and satisfying to experience. To this end, what you leave out is as important as what you put in to an image. If you can remove an element from an image without this substantially reducing the works overall effectiveness, then the element shouldn't be there.
